Z-200 USB Power supply (no-rack DIY starter set)

Z-200 USB Power supply (no-rack starter set)

I was asked to make a small power supply to power 2-3 Eurorack modules without rack (they were U-201 and U-202 – Hz/V and V/oct converters, another friend asked for powering D-420/D-425/D430 drum combo), powered from USB wall adapter. To keep the modules from rolling around on the table, I added mounting rails that hold the modules mechanically together.

The set includes:
1x Z-200 module – 200mA power supply
2x threaded mounting rails
1x bag of screws (silver or black)
1x bag of plastic washers (set/screw washers to screws to prevent module front plate scratching)
1x power bus cable w. six power supply slots

You will need (not included):
– USB wall power adapter, use 5V/2A
– USB A-B cable (“printer” USB cable)
and some modules and patch cables of course 🙂

The rails are 28 or 24HP wide. They allow you to mount a Z-200 and up to six 4HP modules (if you don’t need the mounting holes on the side) or a Z-200 and up to five 4HP modules with one mounting hole on each side, see photos. The assembly leans against the longest module at the back. You can leave one or more free holes on the sides for mounting (if you want to make the sides, say plastic or wooden). The mounting rails can be cut by sheet metal scissors quite easily if less HP is needed.

Do not overload Z-200 power supply module!
Add up the supply currents of the modules you want to use, the sum must not exceed 200mA in each power supply rail (-12V, +12V, +5V)!

And remember – RED STRIP DOWN!!! 🙂
